Æquo was founded by Bâtirente, a pension system, and Le Regroupement pour la Responsabilité Sociale des Entreprises (RRSE), as a way to pool their resources in shareholder engagement, and increasing their collective impact. Since then, Æquo has developed its service offering, formed a board of directors and optimized its operations. It provides its expertise to institutional investors acting in the long-term interests of their beneficiaries and stakeholders.

The name “Æquo”, from the Latin: equity, refers to the enhancement of “equity” and the principle of equity between the various stakeholders of a company (employees, shareholders, customers, suppliers, local communities, etc.). Æquo is a company incorporated in Quebec brokering engagement services with Canadian companies as well as international companies from specific sectors.
